"Kichizo" was founded in 1922 by Kichizo Sugiyama, a cabinetmaker.
Since then, we have made woodworking joints furniture for 100 years till the third generation, Yoshitaka Sugiyama.
From traditional crafts to modern design, we have continued to make furniture by handwork of craftsmen.
Furniture is not only a practical tool that connects people to their homes, but also an important craft that enriches people's hearts and minds.
Japanese furniture is understated and neat, and therefore, so good that it can get close to people.
"Size and weight that can be carried by one person" is ideal.
We believe that this is the "Basis of furniture" at Kichizo, which has inherited the Japanese furniture.

Company history
1922 (Taisho 11)
Kichizo Sugiyama founded Sugiyama Woodworks. Since then, he has produced Suruga Sashimono furniture that follows the flow of Edo Sashimono.
1951 (Showa 26)
Participated in the 1st Shizuoka Kyodai Needle Box Japanese Furniture Fair (predecessor of the current KAGU Messe). Since then, he has exhibited every time.
1964 (Showa 39)
Seiichi Sugiyama established Sugiyama Kichizo Shoten Co., Ltd. Produces dressers, sideboards, etc. along with Japanese furniture.
1970 (Showa 45)

Won the Grand Prix at the World Tea Festival O-CHA Style Contest.
Company name changed to Kichizo Co., Ltd.
2002 (Heisei 14)
Held the 9th Shitsurai Exhibition 2002 at Tanaka Yaesu Gallery (Tokyo).
At Good Design Shizuoka 2002, the Wall Zushi "Zeon" won the Grand Prize and the "Shelf" won the Technology Award.

Exhibited at Woody Frontier Shizuoka (Daikanyama Hillside Terrace) and held the Shitsurei Exhibition 2006 at Tanaka Yaesu Gallery (Tokyo).
"ZUSHI Collection" won the Silver Award at KAGU Messe 2 2006.
"Good Design Shizuoka 2006"Zushi Kashiko” won the Encouragement Award.
2007 (Heisei 19)
Exhibited at Maison & Objet 2007 (Paris, France).
"Zushi Kashiko” won the 2007 Good Design Award and was selected as a G Mark product.
2008 (Heisei 20)
Held "Shitsurei Exhibition 2008" at Momijiyama Garden Tea Room in Sunpu Park.
2009 (Heisei 21)
Participated in the 37th Traditional Crafts Exhibition (Okayama).

2010 (Heisei 22)
Received the Bronze Award at KAGU Messe 2010 for "Tetsutogi Sideboard".

2011 (Heisei 23)
At KAGU Messe 2011 "kitchen of the palm” won the gold medal.

2012 (Heisei 24)
At KAGU Messe 2012 "MUZEUM” won the gold medal.

"Wall in Cabinet Shoin" won the silver prize at KAGU Messe 2013.
"Wall in Cabinet Shoin" received the Cultural Award at Good Design Shizuoka 2013.

At KAGU Messe 2014, "Zushi Porta & Podium" won the Shizuoka Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Award.
Metal accessories "Kisara"was selected as Aoi Premium.
2015 (Heisei 27)
"Omoibako En" won the Silver Award at KAGU Messe 2015.
Participated in an exhibition on Mulberry at Liverpool John Moores University in Liverpool, UK.
2017 (Heisei 29)
"Taku" won the bronze medal at KAGU Messe 2017.
2018 (Heisei 30)
The exhibition "Kichizo Sashimono Furniture and Zushi" was held at Gallery Mizushima.

2019 (Heisei 31/Reiwa 1)
"TEBACO" won the Takaoka Craft Competition 2019.

2020 (Reiwa 2nd year)
Kichizo exhibition space opened on the 6th floor of Shizuoka Isetan (seasonal exhibition).
Responsible for fixtures, etc. of Conrad Tokyo Spa MIZUKI.
2021 (Reiwa 3rd year)
Received a commission to repair "Shima Mulberry Cabinet" by Mr. Soumei Maeda, a famous mulberry tree craftsman.
